WI Competition at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair 28th & 29th November

Craft - A Penguin

Anne Hill was the winner of this WI competition at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. The class was very popular with 105 entries from all across Wales! (Sitting next to Anne’s penguin is the small ceramic penguin which came second - a member from Berriew).

The Little Penguin (Eudyptula minor) would usually live in the sand dunes of Southern Australia and New Zealand. This life sized needle felted fellow has been made from merino wool and alpaca. Every dawn each Little Penguin leaves its burrow, joins the rest of its colony and heads out to sea. Every evening at dusk, en masse, they return to the beach and head home to their burrows.

Anne started needle felting about 4 years ago and enjoys the process of sculpting with wool to create characters such as this blue and white penguin.
