Cadfael and Green Hearts
Past and Present

Shrewsbury Town Guide, Dorothy Nicholle, certainly knows her history, enlightening members of Llangynog WI with facts and fictional stories of old Shrewsbury and Ellis Peter’s Brother Cadfael.

Members were kept entertained with tales of beheadings and were thankful for the lack of 'smelly TV'.

‘Cadfael – Fact and Fiction’
‘SHOW THE LOVE’

With protecting the environment in mind, our WI Climate Ambassador, Maureen Clark, recited her poem "Do I Really?”

Green hearts were supplied for members to write pledges on, encouraging everyone to take more care of the planet.

These will be displayed around the village of Llangynog.

Wendy makes a pledge.

A tasty supper of sweet and savoury refreshments followed, including a crown cake to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and a green heart cake embracing the WI's 'Show the Love" campaign.

Mary’s cake in the form of a crown!

Val’s Amazing green heart cakes.

Supper was provided by Val and Maureen.

During supper, Stella Wilcox performed a selection of her own songs, including a special one encouraging new members to join Llangynog WI!

The Competition, to design a Brother Cadfael book cover, was won by Wendy Barker. Anne Hill and Joanne Hill took second and third place, respectively.

This month’s raffle prize, a beautifully crafted patchwork cushion, was donated by Val and won by Debbie.

Do I really?

Do I really need this dress?
My wardrobe’s rather full
But I don’t like wearing last year’s styles
Perhaps I could have a cull

Do I really need this food?
I threw last week’s in the bin
The sell by dates had passed you see
Anyway, I wouldn’t fit this lot in

Do I really need to take the car?
I’m only going down the way
But my boots are new, I’ve just bought these too
I don’t want them muddied in one day

Do I really need a brand-new phone?
My old one still receives and sends
But it’s not so cool and sleek and shiny
And I can’t wait to show my friends

Do I need my sunscreen and my hat?
Oh yes, it’s going to be warm
I don’t want to get a sunburned nose
Or have moles appear on my arm

The science says it’s global warming
And I really should do more
But I recycle my plastics every week
I put them out by my front door

Thinking of how the world might be
And how everything’s a mess
It’s only served to make me sad
I think I’ll go back for that dress
